one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Casual Friday!

A relative sent me an email that said she was surprised that someone with four kids has as much free time as Richard and I appear to have. I replied that it wasn't free time, it was time we weren't sleeping!

Last night, after I made dinner, gave the kids a bath, put them to bed, put away laundry, made their lunches, put their clothes out for the morning, tidied up the kitchen, got my stuff together for the morning rush, and uploaded pictures, I wrote my post (Richard edited it in the morning) and finally lay my head on the pillow at 1:30 a.m. I usually write my posts after the kids leave for school, but since Richard is indisposed, I wrote yesterday's and today's the night before. I am looking forward to returning to my regular routine. Today I realized again how helpful a second person is in the mechanics of running a household. I am amazed by single parents who do it all on their own (shout out to my moms!).

In addition to this ridiculous bed time (in light of the fact that I had to get up at 6:45), Hollis picked last night, of all nights, to wake up at 4 a.m. for an hour and a half of fun-filled playtime. This included sitting on my head and playing with the phone and radio. I finally put her in her crib and let her cry. I guess it was more like whimpering, but I didn't care because I was exhausted.

In truth, this blog doesn't require that much time, but I have let some things fall by the way side. These would include bathing and the constant cleanup our house requires. If this blog were in Smell-O-Vision I'm sure no one would be looking at it. Picking out an outfit is relatively quick. I'm inspired by a mood or event or piece of clothing. The writing is also pretty fast. What does take a long time is getting a decent picture, and I now have much more respect for Tyra Banks. In the past when I've seen her talk about how much "work" modeling is, I've scoffed and rolled my eyes. Now, however, I have a deep respect for her smising technique and her H2T (head to toe) modeling edict. I am hoping that I will eventually get down to a good pose in 3 shots or less. Thank God we are in the digital age!

Outfit:

The black shirt is From the New York International Children's Film Festival. I doctored it a while back when I was tired of the standard tee. The film festival is screening The Secret of Kells, which is nominated for an academy award, this Saturday at The Egyptian in Hollywood at 1:00pm.

White shirt - vintage piece I believe I found at Goodwill. It has lovely detail.

Jacket - one of those Goodwill finds I revel in. It is unique and well made!

Jeans - Goodwill.

Shoes - Payless.

Belt - London hand me down (same as in Iron Lung).

P.S. I showered! Don't forget to take the shoe quiz!! Happy Weekend and thank you for the comments!!!
