one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Re-Fashionista!!!

Good morning! First of all, I would like to apologize to any people I offended by talking about Richard's vasectomy. I got a few comments that it was TMI and maybe I should have thought more about it before I blabbed all of our business in my blog. However, it was on my mind, and had kept me up half of the night because Richard's co-worker told him, the day before the surgery, mind you, that it could permanently damage his testosterone levels. Why he waited to tell him the day before, when he had known about it for a month, I do not know. It prompted me to Google "Testosterone and Vasectomy" and the results I came upon were disturbing. I told Richard to print out some of this information and take it to the doctor, but my fears were quelled by a morning conversation with a buddy of Richard's who got a vasectomy 30 years ago. He assured me that he is not lacking in testosterone and is completely happy with his decision. I told Richard if he truly felt it was the right thing, then so be it. Wait. Hold up. I apologize for talking about his vasectomy, followed by more talk about it. Apologies again! On to something new.

My friends Lilly and Marc (I'm one of the singers in their wedding band), have dubbed me "The Re-fashionista". I thought this was great and it inspired me to take yesterday's outfit and re-fashion it on account of the fact that I have to wake up at the crack of dawn to get the boys ready and take them to school and am pressed for time (notice the unkempt hair?). Richard has to sit and rest the whole day even though he did manage to get himself to the Clippers/Lakers game last night. I told him he was insane for going, but he has missed two Clippers games in ten years. He managed to make it home in one piece and he didn't even take any of the painkillers the doctor prescribed! He says, "I gotta get my macho on somehow, now that I've been emasculated". I say, now maybe he'll have some inkling of what it feels like to push out three nine+ pound babies without any drugs. To be fair, he is being heroic, (albeit cranky), and I am more aware of how much he does at home after being at work all day. What a MAN!!!

Now onto my outfit. The skirts are the same (details in yesterday's post). However, it is not the same outfit because I've rearranged the elements, added a sweater, and finished it off with my infamous red platforms! Thank to Marc and Lilly for the time-saving motivation. We have posted a shoe quiz on the page. If you wouldn't mind, will you share your shoe business?
The sweater was given to me by my cousin.

  1. I love the personal stories - it just adds to your fashion journey. Thank you for sharing your life with us! BTW, your post yesterday sparked a healthy convo with me and my hubby about post-baby snipping. You're doing good in this world :)

  2. Thank you very much. That's very sweet. That was one of the reasons I wanted to talk about it. I know a lot of guys are "sensitive" about that area!
