one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Tuesday Blues

I am breaking up with myself. My camera, my poses, my outfits... I can't stand any of them. Perhaps it is just one of those days, or perhaps I am suffering from PMS. I don't know, but it is a messy day. Maybe I feel yucky because Charlie gnawed through one of those florescent light up tubes in my bed and my pillow smelled like chemicals all night - not to mention the sandy granules that must have also come from the tube. Could it be that I got two pieces of bad news last week? Which caused me to ponder why? I used to say "Everything happens for a reason." But in the wake of Haiti and other news I've heard recently, I'm changing this mantra to "Everything Happens." Period. Good things happen to bad people. Bad things happen to good people, and everything in between. Everything Happens. C'est la vie! I am just grateful for the opportunity to live and learn.

Outfit:

I felt like dressing a little crazy today. I also pondered why it is that kids can wear anything and look cute. Hollis is wearing striped tights, Uggs, and a gingham dress and she looks adorable. Could you imaging an adult wearing that?

Dress: I got this at Goodwill when I was pregnant.

Lace Shirt: This is the top of a dress that I cut in half. I plan on doing something with the bottom of it one day, but as a dress it was too lounge-y to pull off.

Skirt: I believe I got this skirt at a thrift store when I was working in admissions, but I don't remember which one.

Tights: Hue

Shoes: American Eagle

  1. I actually think "Everything happens" is a much more enlighted belief then the other. It's accepting what is. It's just knowing that things happen and there really is no reason, no one in the sky in charge.

    I hope you're ok.
