one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Sweet Things!

Today is my mom's last day here before she heads back to the East Coast. She got to sleep in a bit, spend time with her sister, and then join Richard, Leo, and I at Charlie's school where he was honored in a "Birthday Circle". The Birthday Circle is a ritual where the children in a particular class wish their peers a happy birthday along with mentioning some of the things they enjoy about the person. You are to speak "from the heart", briefly, and kindly. If you don't know the person well, you can always just say "Happy Birthday". Well, the kids in Charlie's class were so kind, so articulate, and so light of spirit it just made me blissfully happy and grateful. He is a lucky boy, and we are lucky to have C-Dawg in our family!

I could go on about some of the bad news I heard today, or I could wax poetic about chocolate, but instead I will move on to my outfit and spare your brain the pain of reading my blabbing, dear reader.

  2. It was a 1/2 birthday circle since his birthday fall outside of the school calendar. I guess it should have been in February, really. The bad news is about oil spills and abortions and AZ, political/ethical stuff. I was going to get philosophical, but I am too tired and we were having family time! xoxox-S!
