one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

What the?!

Warning: The following post contains sensitive material. Do not read if you are offended about the discussions of female anatomy!

I was going to do a really provocative post about labiaplasty after my friend Ayiko sent me a story from Jezebel about it. Years ago, when I first heard about the surgery, I was perplexed and aghast. I mean, it's bad enough we have to worry about the things that are visible to the world like our weight, or our breast size - our hair, teeth, eyebrows... our style! But worrying about that?! That is something only a select few will see (hopefully), and hopefully those who have access to that area will know that there are a variety of "styles", so to speak, and they also will hopefully love the person as they are.

Unfortunately, some women are comparing themselves to the photo-shopped, and tucked-up pornographic images of neat and tidy vaginas (think Playboy centerfold), and according to this article "labiaplasty and vaginal cosmetic surgery are the fastest growing emerging growth trend in cosmetic plastic surgery."

I guess I just did a shorter version of the post I had in mind. I had an exhausting day with one particular child, so I was going to bail on posting! Tomorrow I will talk about pants and the women who wear them!

Outfit:

Back to layer-mania! I thought I would not be able to wear this shirt again, but I got the idea to pair it with these two skirts.

Shirt: Goodwill. Campus Casuals. One of my favorites!

Checkered Skirt: Salvation Army. A high school find!

Under Skirt: Friend hand me down. Old Navy.

Shoes: Falchi by Carlos Falchi. They are red and pointy.

  1. Sad world filled with women who remove parts of their most sensitive areas so they can look like some fake idea of perfection that no one else gives a shit about. How the hell do men retain so much power? Here's a perfect example of how women keep themselves down!

  3. Can you see the look of sheer frustration on my face? And, yes, I think it's sad women would remove parts of their sensitive and private areas for aesthetics. There were a few interesting replies to the Jezebel article where women complained of pain and discomfort due to their labia which I guess is different.

  4. Women have been not loving themselves for a very long time. Thank God, you wonderful women are not amongst them. Some of us take a very long time to learn who we are and how great. Thank God. All I did was rhinoplasty.
