one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Always!

Yesterday, I made a lame mistake and backed into someone's car. The dent was about the size of a half dollar, so I got out and left a note with my information. Today, I found out that the estimate for this teeny, tiny bump is 1200 bucks!!! Of course I was shocked, and part of me wished I had just driven away. I mean, the guy whose car I hit has insurance, so he would of been fine. However, I made a choice, and now I have to pay.

Anyway, I am not feeling too inspired in posting, so I will write down the words from a card I was given on my birthday this year by a wise and lovely woman. Here goes:

"We didn't come here to fit in. We came here to be who we are. We didn't come here to work. We came here to live our dreams. We didn't come here for the stuff. We came here to love each other. We didn't come here by accident. We each came here with a purpose that is uniquely our own. Be. Dream. Love. Thrive. Always."

I certainly hope all that's true!

Outfit:

This outfit is nearly identical to my Sex and the City tribute outfit, but the shirts are different! The shoes also! And the under shirts! And the styling...

White shirt: Hand me down from cousin. Old Navy.

Pants: Goodwill. Mossimo. Summer staple!

Shoes: Predictions.

  1. Go through your insurance. That's what it's for. You don't have to pay $1200, seriously. Your insurance probably won't even go up.

  2. As much as it sucks now, you should know that you did the right thing by leaving the note. If you hadn't, your conscience would have felt dark and heavy. Doing the right thing is priceless.
