one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Finally Summer!

Today was the first day that I have really felt the feeling of summer. It was hot, the wind was balmy, drops of perspiration formed on HaHa's forehead in the back seat. The boys wore shorts for the first time this year. It took a lot of nudging to get my little C-Dawg to wear short-sleeves, but he did!

As for me, I did what I always do when I am pressed for time in the morning. I grabbed some things I knew I had not worn together, and I ran out the door. It was slightly too much clothing for the day, but it is cold in our class room, so I was fine. I did take off my pink shirt once I got home, though. I often change when I get home because I am certain to get slimed by my little bundle of joy. I dropped some clothes off at the dry cleaners today, for the first time in years, and every stain I pointed out was courtesy of HaHa.

I guess she is another reason I had been in a fashion rut. What's the point of getting dressed up if you know your going to be knee deep in stains?

On  a completely different note, Richard sent me this link which made me shake my head in shame. It is the year 2010. Come on people! Evolve! I think I should make a section of my blog called "Richard's Corner". If it were not for him, I would be lacking on leads for interesting fodder.

Outfit:

Black dress: Urban Outfitters. I got this dress at least 15 years ago.

Pink Shirt: Forever 21. I tied it in the back instead of the front, to get this effect.

Pink Skirt: Hand me down from friend. It used to belong to my "painless mother" Maia!

Shoes: American Eagle.

Also, I am co-hosting a clothing swap this Saturday. If you want to come, hit me up in the comments!

  3. Shelayna, clothing swaps are so much fun. I've been to 3 this year. I've also been swapping out my dozens (or is it hundreds?) of shoes just sitting in boxes for new ones at http://www.shoeswappers.com.

  5. Oh my! What is Vaseline thinking? People will buy anything. And advertisers and corporations will create anything and convince people that they NEED to buy. Manipulative predators, if you ask me! Gross me out.
Anywho...I'm glad to see you're enjoying your summer! ; )
