one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

A Story!

I was recently asked to share a funny or embarrassing story about myself, and the following is what I shared. I hope my mom won't be too upset, but she has a good sense of humor, so I'm hoping she will get a laugh out of this trip down memory lane...

Here goes:

When I was around 10 or 11, my mom asked me to call in sick for her at work. I'm not sure why she thought that was a good idea, but my mom was only 30 at the time, so maybe she was just young and dumb. I had recently read an article in People magazine about a rock star who had over-dosed, and was found in a hotel having "defecated" all over himself. I thought that "defecated" meant "vomited", so, when I called into my mom's office and spoke to her supervisor, I said "Hi. This is Justine's daughter. I am calling to let you know my mom can't come to work today. She is sick. She defecated all over herself." Really. I swear. When I told my mom what I said, I think she said some expletives and told me the correct definition of the word in question. Lesson: Teach your kids vocabulary words, and, do your own calling!

Outfit:

I have said that my outfit's will get wackier as I go along and today I am proving it!

Body suit: Thrift store. Star Cody.

Dress: Goodwill. Old Navy. I fashioned it to make it more fun. I am loving the gray/red combo!
I threw the sweater on because it was cold in the morning and afternoon by the beach! I've worn it several times now!

Shoes: Predictions.

Leo post eye doctor. His eyes were dilated, so they gave him these shades!

  2. I'm jealous of Leo's super cool shades! I bet he felt pretty special after his appointment. What's the verdict? Does he need glasses?
I love the idea of your mom having to go back to work the following day knowing that everyone thinks she pooped on herself. That's a great story!

  3. That is a funny story and I think I didn't have a good relationship with my supervisor at the time. She was always up in my business. That was pretty funny and you are right...I should have called in myself.

  5. That is hilarious. My mother used to make me make those calls too. I don't think we ever got a funny story about it.
