one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Weddings and Proms!

Richard and I just got back from the wonderful wedding of our fabulous friends Hillary and Phil! I am still giddy from the lovely fete which was officiated my talented and dear friend Tony. He did an amazing job, and the bride was absolutely stunning. Her Monique Lhullier dress fit her to perfection, and was, as Richard noted when we drove home, "The prettiest dress in the building." I guess that's fitting for a bridal dress! She also scored it on Craigslist!

My prom picture!
I myself, as I mentioned before, wore my prom dress. I wore it to another wedding 9 years ago, and it's been tucked away ever since. When I pulled it out it had some issues, but I think it came together nicely. The fabric is so gorgeous, but it is falling apart, so I doubt I will wear it again. When I bought it at a vintage store in high school the tag on the dress said "40's", so it's been around for a while.

I need to get to bed, so I will throw in the posting towel!

Outfit:

Dress: This is a dress I bought in a vintage store on Wilshire in Santa Monica in 1991.

Slip: Thrift store. I attached the top of the dress to the slip straps for more stability.

Shoes: Irregular choice. These were my wedding shoes!

  1. I have always loved this dress. You look as pretty in it now as you did when you went to the prom. I really like your necklace (Smile).
