one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Fri-Fri!

It was a crazy day. And a long day.

The highlight was celebrating my "big sister's" upcoming birthday and seeing my Aunt Janine, and watching HaHa run happily into Wendy's house so that she could be dropped off by her at daycare, and watching Leo in a school presentation, doing reader's theater with my students, and eating really delicious food!

I guess there were a lot of highlights.

My "low-lights were the stress of getting all of the kids and myself ready this morning and dealing with the commuter traffic, sitting for 20 minutes waiting to turn onto Barrington to pick Leo up (it was the first time I ever saw Charlie get upset about traffic), and, rushing from Brentwood back to Santa Monica in order to not be late for HaHa's pick-up.

Note that all my"low-lights" have to deal with L.A. traffic...

Oh, one more interesting thing about my day: I spent time with a pretty well known adult film actress. She's been in over 1,000 film, and she is pretty great to talk to, and very smart. She had an interest in being a nurse-midwife too! That's my secret dream job also!

Happy weekend!

Outfit:

Sweater: Goodwill.

Skirt: Goodwill. Zara.

Shoes: Jelly Beanz. I also wore my Mossimo shoes. Couldn't decide!

Here are some vintage barrettes my friend, the master of thrift store shopping, gave to HaHa! Thank you!

  2. Oh, I love the barrettes and you better include a picture of Miss HaHa in your blog. I can't believe Charlie got upset about the traffic. I guess he didn't have a book available to read. I am happy to hear that for the most part, you all made it through another hectic day ok.
