one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Technicalities!

I felt like I was cheating a little bit today. I was wearing an outfit that was identical to another outfit I wore, except I wore a different style of jeans, and a different shirt. However, both shirts are black, and the shoes and the jacket are the same. I did go without the jacket for quite a bit of the day, so maybe I can think of my outfit without the jacket, which would then be a "new" outfit, and make me feel better. Technically, it is different. Right? Maybe I'll do a new poll.

On another note, I had to take my pictures inside today because it's my late day. I hate it when I take inside pictures now because they just don't look right. I need a more sophisticated camera for the pictures I want to take.

I have to get going because I need to get ALL the kids ready tomorrow morning and be out the door by 7:00. Richard is flying off to South Bend Indiana to see Notre Dame battle Western Michigan. He won the tickets in a contest. Lucky me! I won a single mom weekend!

Thankfully, I have my lovely friend Wendy and my Aunt Janine to help me out in the morning and tomorrow night when I need to go to my lovely friend Leseley's birthday party!

Outfit:

Shirt: Goodwill. Forever 21.

Jeans: Big Sunday.

Shoes: Falchi by Carlos Falchi.

Jacket: Salvation Army. I got this in high school!

See the original outfit in Whoops!

  1. A single mom weekend sounds as busy as usual. Thank goodness you have Wendy and Janine to help out. I know Janine is excited about it because she hasn't seen the Espy kids in a while. Lucky Richard does it again. I hope he has a great time!

  2. That outfit totally counts as new. The old one had great big buttons down the front, plus, as long as a piece of clothing is different, it's a new outfit as far as I'm concerned. That's how InStyle is able to do that spread every month using ten articles of clothing and making a week's worth of clothes. It's not cheating. You rock.

  3. I think that the jeans make it look very different. This outfit looks more loose and free on the bottom, and more fitted on the top. Not a whoops at all ;)
