one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Hot Peasants!

When I woke up this morning it was chilly, and it had been chilly when I was out last night, so I decided that I would don a real fall outfit, and layer it on. I started with textured tights, and the shirt I wore yesterday, and added a velvet cap sleeved jacket. All I needed was a skirt. I tried on a few, but none were quite right. Then I thought of turning this dress into a skirt. I've only worn it one other time this year.
It's got a great texture, and I figured it could work.

So, after tweaking and tying, I headed out the door, feeling like a Russian peasant. It's not a look I usually sport, but I am supposed to be mixing it up, right?

Imagine my dismay when the sun started to come out, and my all-black fall outfit seemed wholly inappropriate. And hot. Literally hot, not awesome hot.

No one commented on my ridiculously dark outfit on such a sunny day. Proving once again that people really aren't thinking about us as much as we think they are!

Outfit: Goodwill. Anne Klein.

Dress as skirt: Thrift store.

Jacket: Forever 21.

Shoes: American Eagle.
