one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Playback!

Often, and I think I've mentioned it before, so forgive me, I walk out of the house in the morning feeling quite confident in my outfit of the day. I am happy, comfortable, and feeling my style. And then, I see my photos. They do not capture the beauty of the fabrics. The textures and the colors. They simply do not measure up. Or it could be that my outfit wasn't that great to begin with. I'm not sure.

Case in point. Today I got a lot of compliments on my outfit. However, I got home late, and the flash photography doesn't really do the outfit justice. The colors look much better in natural light, I think.

Or,  it just wasn't as great as I thought. What-evs...

So. After a five-hours-of-sleep night I arrived home cranky and miserable. I made dinner, sent Charlie straight to bed, (apparently he was lacking sleep as well), and dealt with the other two. I also dropped a wooden and metal post on my foot, which hurt like hell. When Richard still wasn't home by 9:00 and HaHa was running around being a crazy toddler, I was certain I was going to lose it.

I walked to the front of the house and opened the door in the hope of rescue. Two cars rolled down our street. HaHa walked outside. A few moments later Richard pulled into the driveway. Thankfully, he put HaHa to bed.

Outfit:

Shirt: Forever 21. This was a pregnancy purchase.

Skirt: Goodwill. Citron. The fabric and print on this skirt is so, so lovely.

Belt: Also Goodwill.

Shoes: Mosimo. I was going to wear my gold sandals, but they were upstairs where HaHa was falling back to sleep this morning, and I couldn't risk disturbing her.

  1. That is a really pretty outfit. I love the colors and the skirt. I always knew Hollis was going to rule the roost in the Espy family, I just didn't know that it was going to start so early. HaHalarious is Queen of the World from what I see. I just hope in the midst of all that you do for your family and everybody else on a daily basis, that Shelayna you find time to appreciate and feel the love, joy and wonder they bring to your life. The Espy family is AMAZING!!!!!
