one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Word to Your Mother!

To the moms who do.
The moms who try.
The moms who help and love.

To moms who scream
And cook and clean
And work
and play.
Happy Mother's Day!

Okay, I'm grasping at straws, but I just have to go with the flow sometimes. Actually, yesterday I meant to write about the loose pages of a book Leo and I found drifting down Olympic Boulevard. I believe they were from one of those Life Magazine books that I used to read with fascination when I was younger. The pages that I happened to pick up were fashion related which led me to believe it was a little cosmic nudge. Go forth young woman and blog about trivial things! Your pants and shoes. Be brave! One of the pages referenced Wellesley girls bringing "their sloppy attire into town". Adjacent to the sloppy look is a "classic" girl in her presentable attire. Clearly a lot has changed since those days. I was surprised by some very short shorts circa 1956 and intrigued by the line "What U.S. women wore: Shirts trim or sloppy. Skirts high or low." Now that's some good copy. That's Life!

Outfit:

Following in the footsteps of my Wellesley sisters I am sloppy on Sunday! I was cooking today and hanging around my casa, so I couldn't get all dolled up. I also continue to be pained by any shoes with a closed heel, but am looking forward to the day when I can wear them again!

Shirt: Salvation Army. I got this tank in high school and have hung on to it because of the lovely visual motif. It also says "la mer, les nuages. " The sea. The clouds. All on double knit nylon!

Grey sweater: Mossimo. A hand me down from my gorgeous cousin Taylor who made two amazing tarts for our Mother's Day lunch.

Grey Jeans: Old Navy. Also from Taylor. Lucky me!

Shoes: Fit Flops. Again.

The short shorts.

The sloppy coed.
