one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

My Seventies Style!

Okay. Day two. 10:30 a.m. I am now officially dressed. Other people who have children are often shocked when they hear of the late morning hours I keep with my bed on the weekend. I am a night owl by nature and prefer to go to bed around 1 or 2 a.m. (which I often do). My husband is a night owl too and we are bad influences on each other. He often goes to bed at 2 or 3:00 a.m. We do not get enough sleep, which is something we need to work on this year. We are lucky because we now have a fourteen year old in the house who can keep an eye on the little ones on weekend mornings. Or, Richard often wakes up because the kids are screaming. I can and do sleep right through it. What can I say, I'm tired.

When I get dressed, one of my primary concerns is having access to my boobuses (what's left of them). Not for me, of course, but for my lovely little Hollis. This wrap top is perfect for nursing and I acquired it at a clothing swap. The shirt underneath is from the Salvation Army on 11th street in Santa Monica. I got it when I was in high school. I would say that it is from the 70's. I was at a thrift store a while ago and I found the identical 70's shirt. I was stunned! I almost bought it just for the novelty, but who needs two floral secretary shirts? The jeans are from a fundraiser called Big Sunday. 5 smackers! You can't beat that!

  1. Cute outfit. You're awesome. But are you really going to wear those shoes all day? You must be going out.
