one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Technology 1, Shelayna 0

To all of Shelayna's loyal followers, this is Richard. I'm sorry to report that there is no new High Fashion on The Hudson post for tonight. Her internet access is down at the place she is staying, so she can't update tonight.

She called me around 9pm for some technical support. After I figured out that the problem was with the internet service in the apartment, I gave her all the options:

1. Knock on the neighbor's door and tell them to reset their router.
2. Walk around the apartment building with her laptop and see if there are any unlocked networks around.
3. Go out and find a McDonald's or Starbucks and use their wifi.

Needless to say, she was not pleased with these choices.

Sooooo, as a "compromise", I "volunteered" to put a post up tonight.

What Shelayna wore today: her salmon skirt from the Throwin' in the Towel!, a tank top, and gold sandals.

She gave me a much, much, much more detailed description, but tonight is poker night. I had seven guys listening in on our internet and fashion discussions - and laughing, of course. I lost track of what she said because I was dealing at the same time I was trying to take dictation. Just like a man... never listening! Sorry about that.

Ah well... look on the bright side - tomorrow you get double posts!

Outfit:

Tank: Goodwill. Old Navy.

Skirt: Thrift Store.

Shoes: Zoe& Zac.

  3. I love this post too - esPEcially the outfit description because I imagine it being said in a deep, unshaven, poker-playing voice.
