one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

A Mess!

Oh. My. What has wearing a different outfit everyday turned me into?

A person who experiments.

A person who has to think about what they wear.

A person who looks ridiculous.

I have had many a day up here where I look at my photos and say, "What was I thinking?" (Today, anyone?)

However, I do have to admit that I've been pretty pleased with some of my outfits. And, I would like to reiterate that most of my outfits are "new". That is, I've never worn them before...

I guess my primary thought is, "Did I wear this combination yet?"

And not shopping? It's pretty easy, especially since I can't. And, contrary to expectations, I have not channeled my shopping urges into sprees for HaHa or the boys. They have closets full of hand-me-downs too. And, like me, they're fine with it!

Outfit:

Shirt: Salvation Army. I got this in high school. I love it. It had big huge shoulder pads that I removed. Shoulder pads and I do not mix. Chaus.

Skirt: Friend hand-me-down. Ella Moss. Dress worn as skirt.

Shoes: Capezio. However, I wanted to wear these lovely heels. Working with first graders, I just can't wear heels all day!

HaHa sitting with Daddy in the back room! She's my smile bear! I asked her to say cheese, and she obliged!

  1. I would never think to put these two colors together and yet on you, it looks funky fresh and cute.

  2. What a smart idea. I couldn't figure out how your green belt was the same lovely color as your green skirt. It's a dress! I love your creative thinking.
