one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Shaughn!

Oh my goodness! In my race for power and glory (Weird Science, anyone?), I forgot to do a birthday shout out for one of my greatest and most gracious friends! I actually sent her a Facebook message in the wee hours of her birthday morning, so I forgot to call her later in the day, and, as I said before, I totally spaced when I was posting last night. It was a long day...

Okay. My friend.

Shaughn is sweet. Shaughn is kind. Shaughn is funny as the day is long. She is a beauty with the most amazing eyes that she uses to great effect when she's chatting with you, and her wit is sharp and quick! She is classy. She is fun. She cooks like nobody's business.

Play-dates at her house were always a highlight in my parenting life because she was my first friend to have a baby, and thus, we were having girl-time whilst dishing the dirt on diapers (among other things).  Before she had her own kids, she used to cuddle and care for my Charlie as if he were her own and I knew she would be the greatest mom. She is also a wonderful writer, a beloved teacher, and everyone who knew her in Cali misses her like crazy-cakes!

Happy Birthday Shaughn!!!!!

Date Night!

Well, Richard and I had a sort of date afternoon. We dropped the two youngest kids off at the benevolent Aunt Janine's and headed off to the theater to watch Charlie perform in a school show. It was surreal to see my little boy dance on a stage that I have danced on many a time, many years ago. It was also nice to get a moment out with Richard as it has been a while.

Now we are going to watch a movie! This seems really mundane, I know, but it is something we don't do as often as we should. HaHa is only now starting get into a good sleep routine. Thank Buddha! Anyway, in order for us to get to our Netflix film that has been sitting in the mail basket for a good three weeks, I am going to end my post now!

Pollyanna didn't take any credit for our Brunettes' tunes, but I am certain she had to have written at least one line. Anyway, she gets paid to write now, so I guess it was one minuscule step on the road to professional writing!  Also, we got an offer from a lovely and brilliant guitar player and writer to jam with us, so maybe The Brunettes actually have a future. You Tube, here we come!

Outfit:

Sage Silk Shirt: Goodwill. Kenneth Cole. I got this when I was trying to "hide" a pregnancy pooch.

White tank: Old Navy. I am wearing it inside out because it is beaded.

Jeans: Goodwill. Gap.

Jacket: Clothing Swap. From the lovely Jamie! I am too lazy to go look at the tag right now!

Shoes: zoe & zac!

Necklace: This is a bracelet that I've looped a belt from a shirt through. Now that I am exploring my closet, I've begun to look at everything with an eye on its' possibilities.

Sleep Deficit...

I sit in front of the screen, for the first time since I've started really, and know not what to write. A blankness fills my mind and I realize I only slept 5 1/2 hours last night! Therefore, I am tired and at a loss. I never used to need so much sleep, but I guess that's part of getting old.  Back in the day I used to go out to a club, stay until last call, go out after last call, roll in to bed at 3 or 4 and wake up to babysit at 8:00 a.m! I had a regular Sunday morning gig from 9-12, and I never missed it. I was always on the go...

Now, I am on the slow-go.

Tonight, I am joining the amazing Ayiko for a wrap party. I wanted to mention that she is the person who coined the phrase "Treats" that I used in quotation marks a while back. I should have quoted her then, but I didn't. She uses "treats" to mean a variety of things. She might say:  "Hollis has treats in her nose", or  "He tried to show me his treats, but I looked away." Needless to say, she is a riot!

Oh, there is a website for Intact America where you can take a circumcision quiz. I got 6 out of 9! Let me know how you do!

Outfit:
Military Style Jacket: I also got this at a clothing swap, from my very stylish and wonderful friend Jaime. She is an educator extraordinaire, and she founded an incredible tutoring company called Academic Success. She is an inspiration!

Teal Scoop Shirt: This was a gift. It came with a cropped sweater trimmed with faux fur and lace. I guess I'll be wearing it at some point. I am wearing the top backwards. I may turn it around for the party tonight... We'll see!

Maroon Cami: This is by Calvin Klein. I got it ages ago, and it is on it's last legs/straps?...

Jeans: I scored these bad boys at a clothing swap! J. Crew. I always wear them with a long top because they are tighter than I like.

Shoes: Mossimo. From my admissions days!

This is Hollis sneaking in front of the camera saying "Cheese!" My little HaHa!
