one closet, one year!

I was getting dressed for a friend's birthday party and I didn't know what I was going to put on my body. I looked in my closet and it seemed empty, unpromising. I've had these moments before; everything was old, ill-fitting, or blah. I thought to myself, "Ugh! I have NOTHING to wear!" Then I began rifling through my closet and saw a forgotten shirt I loved and many more, and I realized I was crazy. I had plenty to wear, and plenty to choose from. My closet was FULL of treasures! At that moment I decided I would take a year to explore my closet and to add NOTHING new to my wardrobe.

I would create a NEW outfit for each day in order to maximize my wardrobe and shake up my style.

Basically, I would try to "snap out" of my fashion rut, and appreciate what I have.

It was my New Years' project:
One Closet, One Year.

Strange Heat!

The weather is messing with my wardrobe challenge. Here I am getting ready to sashay into my fall outfits, and,-BAM! It's hot!.. East coast hot.
Desert hot.
Melt-my-head-off hot.

So, I have to stretch my summer style a bit longer than I'd like, but I guess it helps to keep me on my toes.

Today I got the best compliment I could get when I had two friends tell me that I "inspired" them to look at their closets with a "fresh eye". One on them said, and I quote, "I'm really challenging myself to find different combinations of tired pieces of clothing." The other friend said the outfit she was wearing was the direct result of reading my blog! Yay! That's what I want to hear! I was so happy! And so flattered! Especially since they are awesome powerhouses of femininity and style!





Outfit:

Shirt: Straight from my brilliant friend's company I heart Guts! Her designs are the best, and they're anatomically correct!

Skirt: I got this from a thrift store at least 9 years ago. It was a dress and I cut off the top. Silly me!


Shoes: Fit Flops.

    Thank goodness I'm not in LA. I'm wearing leggings and boots (not that it's really so cold but it ain't no 100 degrees.)
